Amanda graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology from Emmanuel College with Distinction in the Field in 1998.  In 1999 she began her work in child protection for the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, where she continues to work in the Special Investigations Unit.  In 2005 Amanda graduated from Boston University with her MSW degree.  Amanda has spent her career training new social workers and supervising student interns.  She has also been adjunct faculty in the Behavioral Sciences Department at Fitchburg State University since 2013.  During her 20+ year career in social work, Amanda has passed three levels of the ASWB exams- LSWA, LCSW, and LICSW. 

As a trainer for the DCF Child Welfare Institute as well as a faculty member at FSU, Amanda employs numerous modalities to help students succeed with learning material and applying it to their social work practice. She enjoys meeting with students in both one to one sessions as well as small groups to practice exam-taking strategies.  When not engaged in social work practice, she enjoys being a hockey mom to her adolescent sons.

Ray obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Marist College in 2009, and his Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University in 2012. Ray draws from his work with diverse populations across different practice settings including older adults, co-occurring disorders/addictions, mental health, work with the Hispanic/Latino community, and private group practice. He uses these experiences to tailor studying for the licensing exam in a way that succinctly ties practice theory with real world experience.

Tutoring, offered in both individual and/or group format, aims to target your strengths and areas of needed growth. Tutoring can reinforce your level of confidence in the skills you gained in school and help you pass the exam. Ultimately--and more importantly--Ray aims to foster confidence in your ability to succeed in your emerging career.

When not traveling between different boroughs for work in two private group practices, Ray spends most of his time in Brooklyn writing, attempting to learn guitar, and exploring new hangout venues for self-care.

Meet the Tutor: Susan Mankita, LCSW

Tutor Susan Mankita, LCSWA short bio of Susan Mankita, LCSW--social worker, professor, clinical supervisor, exam prep tutor:

A proud professional social worker for almost 25 years, Susan believes that any social worker, once given the right tools, can pass their licensure exam. She has developed a licensure preparation curriculum and handbook, used to teach her full day licensure prep workshop for NASW's Florida Chapter. Over the past four years, her course and her private tutoring with re-takers have helped hundreds pass the exam. Following an individualized assessment, she works with unlicensed social workers to strengthen their knowledge and teach them how to apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities to passing the exam.

Susan currently teaches social work practice and human behavior at Florida International University's Stempel School of Public Health and Social Work.

Meet the Tutor: Laura Gale, LCSW

Laura GaleA short bio of Laura Gale, LCSW--social worker, teacher, exam tutor:

Laura received her BSW from San Diego State University in 1994. She went on to pursue an MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane Addams School of Social Work in 1997, and licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in 2000. Additional training has included Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Originally from San Diego, Laura has been working in the Los Angeles area for the past 15 years in the area of child welfare and children's mental health. She has held a variety of positions including case manager, individual and family therapist, clinical supervisor, and agency administrator. She has developed several trainings for social workers including, "Self Care for Therapists," a stress management curriculum based in mindfulness techniques, and "Understanding the Dependency Court System," a training on the ins and outs of child welfare. Laura currently teaches at the University of Southern California School of Social Work.
